About -

I made my first theatrical prop in 1985, it was not very good, but I have been making props ever since, and developing my skills, particularly in leather and wood work. Examples can be seen in the catalogue.

Most of the props I construct are of a theatre quality, that is they look OK from 3-5 metres but won't stand up to close scrutiny, such as if used for LARPing or Movie/TV props.

Over the years, on top of ongoing study of medieval and renaissance European history and medieval Japan, I have developed an interest in medieval woodwork and turning, Campaign and Victorian furniture.

I am currently looking into the possibilities EVA foamsmithed weapons and casting expanding PUE foam.

And, no, I don't have a mobile phone, It is a green decision.

I work from home, so a land line is fine. there is also an answering machine to take messages. If I am not a home, I am either working or with friends, and either way they deserve my full attention.

Design and build philosophy -

Safety. Any prop can be dangerous, some inherently so, so making items as safe as possible and taking what risk reduction action is needed comes first,But after safety is taken into account, I saw a sign in a mechanics workshop, and it sort of sums it up.

I make to the best of my abilities, but I am not a tradesman or such.

Prop/ set piece construction and the environment.

If an item is not purchased by a theatre or cast member, if there is potential for other theatres using it, it will go into storage.
Items not stored are broken down as far as possible so parts can be reused in future items. Of the rest as much as possible is recycled.

Web design.

Except as required by the web host there are no scripts or cookies on this site. They are not needed so there is no need to take up your time slowing the page down for you or using more resources than needed. Yes, it saves only a fraction of a second of time and a few micro watts of power, but it all adds up.

.I hope to be able to expand the pages to include a blog and a list of links to suppliers I have found useful for odd and rare things. No, I will not accept payment/goods from a suppler/company to be included (don't ask the response will offend).
